Would appreciate a bit of guidance on the heater, since parts of mine are missing! Apologies if this is basic!
With the car on the body roller i have good access to the underside and can see the heat exchangers, rusty but seem OK. On one side of the car a 3 inch flexi pipe goes from the exchanger to a tube that takes it into the car; the other side is missing but i can easily rectify this. What i had not realised previously is that there appears to be 1 inch holes adjacent to the 3 inch tubes going onto the car. What are these for?
Looking from the hole backwards towards the rear of the car i can see some similar looking metal pipes - should these be conencted with some sort of flexi pipe? As i said earlier what do they do?
Many thanks
Graham

There is a hot air flow from the 2" elbows through the steel pipes under the tinwear below the carbs (the pipes you've seen) then via a paper/card flexibile pipe to the mixer box where you first spotted the missing link. The diameter for the flexible pipe is not a standard VW one (like the sort all the air cooled specialists sell for beetles etc) so I found a rubber pipe to substitute. The function of all this is to warm the carburettors and stop them icing up. I guess it was not fitted to the early single carb cars. If you've not got the last bit of pipe then you are loosing heat into the car. Clive

:-/Never loaded a picture before so does this work?? From what i can establish (and Clive's comments seem to bear this out) this is where the fresh air mixing pipes should be to keep the cabin temperature from getting too hot. Looks like i need to find some suitable rubber piping Read more: t34world.proboards.com/index.cgi#ixzz1CWaeLz4eAttachments:

Graham, I don't know if you've solved or found all of your bits, but... What you've pictured missing are the heat exchanger to body tubes (the flexy pipe pieces), and the cool air mixing tubes (part of the heating system.. Here's a link of ALL the heating components. classicvw.org/gallery2/v/partsbook/Parts-book-pictures-only/heaterboxes.jpeg.htmlFrom your description, it sounds like you're missing parts 30, 40, 42, and 50 (which is 65mm ID). I hope this helps.
