HI Jack - That seems like a great price and his feedback looks good. Here is the set from my 68 - I set it out to see how many yards it would take. I purchased 5 yards of German square weave and it came out to about $450 for the material. I didn't see the carpet that goes on the back of the seat in his kit, but maybe it is connected to the carpet that goes into the storage area under the rear parcel tray.

Thanks Carsten for the information on the probable fabric type used in those kits. If someone is looking for an inexpensive or temporary alternative, this might be a good way to go, but I'd definitely inquire about the missing piece that goes on the backside of the upper jump seat. Unfortunately, this is a good example of the kind of kit I'm not looking for. I wrote a blog post concerning this subject a couple of years ago and it pretty well sums up how I intend to design a kit for my own car. the-nautilus.blogspot.com/2008/10/big-cover-up-carpeting-nautilus.htmlI'll bet the back of Tom's original carpet set in the pictures above has a 'fabric weave orientation line' on the backside.

Hi Greg - I do not have the blue lines on the back, or they may have been there but you can't see them. I do not know what earlier carpet looked like, but the back of this carpet is coated with some sort of a waterproofing (and a lot of glue).
The way I have the carpet set out has the grain going all the same direction, except a couple of pieces (That would have required another yard of carpet).
One thing I an concerned with is on the late carpet all off the rubber pieces are heat welded on, not sewn on. I'm not sure how that is going to work out yet.
I'll be getting some more pictures to Lee as I go.

Sorry Jack for stealing your thread. This was my project for the holiday weekend. I was 180 degrees off on my carpet layout in my first post. The grain runs the width of the bolt, not the length. I also figured out why the direction of the grain matters. It is because the material bends better parallel with the grain. I did find that VW was nothjn totally consistent. The Lincoln armrests and the sidewall kicks (the smallest pieces) ran in different directions.

Looks great! The only piece that's off is the rear kick-panel, which has several tight bends as it emerges out from under the front edge of the lower jump seat pad and bends down to cover the front side of the panel.
Who's sewing the vinyl edge binding, kick pads and grommets on for you?
I've heard that using a carpet steamer will help with the installation, as the carpet will bend better, particularly over the rear wheel wells.

WOW! That kit sure looks like an acceptable alternative to the high-priced German squareweave kits at $1000+. Carsten confirmed the company will cut an early tunnel piece (for rotary heater knob vs dual controls) for 1962-63 models. And they will include the piece behind the rear seat rest also. Sounds like a great option for T34 owners that don't have the original carpet trims and don't want to pay for the expensive squareweave.
Good photos, Jurgen! Can I use these in an article for T34 World News? Please email the high-resolution ones to LeeHedges@T34World.org and include the photos after the kit has been installed in your T34.

Today I put the pieces in my Karmann . Under the new carpets there is the old , original carpet on many places . Therefore it looks a little "thick" . And I dont glue them or anything else , only put it in place . And not in the right order . It`s only a first view . Jürgen
