Hi All,
My car has been converted from 6v to 12v. It has the dash opening for the push button assembly, but currently has the replacement pull switch assembly installed. Is it possible to use a push button assembly for 12v?
Regards,
Remco

You have to change the resistors in it . The switches are ok . Jürgen

I think if you try to use the original 6V push-button unit with a 12V electrical system you will push too much electricity through the unit and break it. There is an original 12V version to the push-button unit but I've only ever seen one.
If you'd like to have the look of the early push-button switch then you can install it but not connect it, instead connecting the lights & wipers to switches hidden underneath the dash for functionality sake.
I've never heard of anyone converting an original 6V unit to work under 12V conditions.

Thanks for the answers. I figured there needed to be some upgrade to the assembly to take the higher voltage, although several people suggested no adjustment would be necessary, which I found odd considering the dimmers/wheels. Would it be easy to change the resistors? I do have a push button assembly, which probably needs some rework or checking anyway.

I've always been scared to death when dealing with electrical issues, as my father never taught me the basics. I am no help whatsoever with advising you. But I'm sure that we have members with lots of advice to provide. Greg?

If you double the voltage (Volt) by using the same Power (Watt) you have the half currency ( Ampere) . Jürgen

That`s the reason for the factorys to sell you 24 Volt electrical systems in the future : You can use thinner cooper wires and smaler contacts . So 6 Volt systems have thicker wires than 12 Volt systems . Jürgen
