Great information, Franck.
Can someone tell me if the headlight ring seals were originally grey, like the PoP seals, or were they black, like the ones now being sold by Karmann Ghia Ersatzteil Service?

Hello, I bought these parts last week. I am very satisfied with the quality, but the price is unfortunately very high. But what we can do??? Nothing... pay and smile

Actually we DO have an option with reproduction seals. One of our long-time suppliers has the ability to reproduce seals for us at much lower prices than others are selling them today. I have been working with him to supply seals for reproduction. With a bigger voice and more owners buying parts it will help him to reproduce more parts for everyone.

Simon Kelley is one of our best sources for reasonable T34 repro parts. He offers the front & rear windshield seals, door window seals, quarter window seals, engine tube seals, and several others too. He's based out of England but accepts PayPal for payments and ships the orders out very quickly. Nice, reliable, and good quality repro parts.
I've been discussing with Simon about other T34 seals he may be able to reproduce for us. Stay tuned for more info on new parts. And if you want a list of the seals he offers, open the web site, click on Resources then choose Parts Sources for the complete PDF list.

I just purchased the brake light seals from Simon. I am not trying to purchase all of the seals right now, but I would at least like to do all of the lights. Your PDF going over where to purchase these has been a huge help Lee. According to Simon's email to me on 1/11/2011, he now only sells the following; - T34 front Window Seal
- T34 Rear Window Seal
- T34 Rear Pop out Seals
- T34 Door Top window Seal
- T34 Tail Light Seals
I was looking for his "reasonable" pricing on the boots I am looking for and the turn signal seals - but he unfortunately is only selling these items at this time. Hopefully he can offer more in the future. Thanks Lee

Are these new rubber seals good, will they last? I heard that the sets from Thailand didn't last long and have hardened and became brittle rather quickly? I'd hate to spend all this money on rubber and find out I have to purchase a new set in 5 years or so.

I've accumulated enough seals over time on the primary and secondary markets to nearly do 3 cars, so I've got some money tied up in them and have a keen interest in keeping them preserved for future use. I've heard the horror stories from people about the rapid degradation they've had once putting their seals to use and am trying to figure ways to avoid any disappointments.
I started buying Type 34 rubber parts directly from 'PoP' in early 2004. All of the seals from this shipment have remained bagged and in the original shipping box. I periodically check them and none have degraded. I attribute this to no sunlight and sealed bags, storing these seals as far away from sources of ozone and solvents as possible.
A few of my seals were purchased from well known on-line vendors between five and six years ago and all of these seals have been carefully stored along with the original set and are in great condition, as well.
However...I took a chance and bought a complete set of Type 34 rubber on the secondary market about three or four years ago and this set has had some problems. I believe that those pieces that were kept out of the sun and bagged are the ones that have survived in perfect condition. Those few pieces that were left to sit out are not quite so nice. In particular, the main vent window rubbers have taken a serious beating. The left side has totally hardened and oxidized and is basically garbage. The right hand side was headed for a similar fate until I put it into a zip lock bag with some Mothers rubber conditioner for about 3 weeks. It took some careful manipulating to bring it back to 'like new' condition. A lot of carbon was worked out of the rubber in this seal, but it looks great and is again pliable. I was able to test fit it to a vent frame, with no tears or cracks.
I am curious to know what others are using to condition and preserve the original or replacement/reproduction rubber on their cars?

Is it just me, or is it kinda pointless to have a seal that can't handle a bit of weather?... I mean, these cars actually might see a little sunshine and road use correct?.... If these seals can't hack it when stored, be they in packets of on the shelf, they are no good to me.... I need a product I can fit to my car, and actually allow it to see they great outdoors.... I really don't think that is too much to ask.

The top-front edge seal has long been unavailable. But they have only repro'd the right side, not the pair. I have heard from our Thail T34 Group that they have both sides in NOS condition and they are planning to reproduce them!
I can't believe the headlight-to-body seals (gray) are US$60 each! That's robbery!
