Hello, I wanted to get opinions on this. A radio for a 1962, from the resources here, there is two different type of radios for a 62. But recently, I have been seeing ads on parts cars and ebay with a different style radio for a 62. Was there different production or markets (geo) of the radios? Any insight on this would be helpful. Thanks, George

This is a pict from a 1962 ad that was on samba recently. As you can see it looks original. This is quite different from the 5 push button model. I am wondering if different radios were put in based on geo's? Thanks, George Attachments:

OK, the one thing you need to remember is that radios were chosen for T34s at the VW dealership when the customer took delivery of their new car. That means that the customer could choose ANY radio that was available. T34s were recommended to be fitted with the Blaupunkt Frankfurt model radio with special T34 faceplate design & gray KG radio tuning knobs that matched the dash knobs. There were very few "special order" T34s that a customer pre-selected the exact radio they wanted BEFORE the T34 was built at Karmann. So that's the biggest reason why you see a wide variety of radios in 1962 T34s (or any other year).
Blaupunkt Frankfurt radios were made for each year with a different letter-series. 1962 was the E-series. This series ID is on a small paper label stuck to the right side of the radio.
If you're being authentic then you'd be searching for a Blaupunkt Frankfurt E-series radio with gray push-buttons & gray tuning knobs, and the T34 aluminum A-shaped faceplate to match the dash design.
If your T34 was exported to the USA in 1965 (but it was a 1962 model year) then you may want to get a 1965 V-series radio and get the Blaupunkt Frankfurt TR de Luxe US version (with English AM & FM push-buttons).
The Pacific 1962 T34 in the pic above has a Blaupunkt Berlin ATR Series T model radio from 1962-63. It would have been an option at the VW dealership in Europe and likely was less expensive than the Frankfurt radio.
