I ran across someone who has a stack of beauty rings, what is the correct one for a 64' T34?
I know it is anodized aluminum, I know how it fits with the right cap - what I do not know is how many slots? I see 10, I see 9, I have seen 8. I have seen vertical slots for the tire valve with rubber around it, I have seen a rounded slot. I know some are not particular about the beauty ring - but if I had my choice and could find it - what would it be? Does someone have a pic?

There are many different styles of aluminum beauty rings for the T3/34. The original/stock ones that were fitted in 1964 had eight thin-slotted holes and a round hole for the air-filler-tube. These were used from mid-1963 through 1965. The early T3/34s in 1962-63 used the thin edge-rings typically seen in Transporters, Beetles, & T14s of the same era. The 1966-69 style rings have eight holes that are more rounded.

No Lee, be careful: it's NOT a set, it's ONE SINGLE ring only! Quite expensive, isn't it ?? Regards Jörg

Yikes! My apologies, guys! I didn't take the time to translate the page. It still gives Allen a perfect idea of what a 1964-65 beauty trim ring looks like ...

My '63 came with a set of these; are these correct for Oct '62? Or should they be like these?

My hunch is there is a correlation between the trim ring style and whether the wheels are two-tone or not.

1962 T34s were fitted with the trim ring that hugs the outer edge. 1963 T34s were fitted with both the edge style and the thin-slotted style. 1964 T34s were only fitted with the thin-slotted style. I don't have a VIN # when the change took place, sorry.

Those are the correct stock units, but not sure which month they became standard issue. They'll look good on your car.
I have a set of these, NIB. However, I plan to run the 'X' style rings myself. You have a lot of legitimate choices.

According to my early copy of the Type 3 parts book the thin slotted beauty rings replaced the earlier Lemmerz trim rings on the Type 34 at chassis number 0 050 173, around July 1962. All '63s should have the slotted rings. (It also says this change applied to types 341, 351 and 352!)
