 current door with which has an old repair with a part door skin that we are not happy with.  old part skin replacement skin off and clean up door frame. At least the door frame looks very good  shape new door skin section  fold, reverse roll and trial fit  remove old top part of door skin section from door and tack weld new skin into position  completely butt weld to old door skin  hammer up inside and out. File weld inside and out  spray inside door skin and door frame  fit door skin to frame and spot weld in place  nice and straight  fit door to body  perfect

Mmmhh, this looks good.
Better than what the Karmann factory ever did, yup. On the other hand VW didn't pay them for rust prevention so they didn't do it.
But 'rusty parts' seem a bit funny to me as the actually rusty sections in mine didn't exist anymore, just holes. Everything is relative, I guess.
