Sadly we all know these are as rare as hen's teeth, so whilst I continue my search for reasonably priced versions of the originals, what is the best alternative? Currently my car has what appears to be 7inch Mini headlamps screwed in place. I see from other KG forums that others in the Type 1 world use an after sales Mini headlamp with bowl etc. All thoughts on what would make the best alternative to the originals Best Wishes Graham

I think that members of this group might be able to help you source what pieces you need. Just let us know what parts you have or require.

Graham lives in Scotland and he'd need to install the Euro-style headlights (not sealed beam). The problem is 1) cost to buy the headlight components will easily be $250-300, 2) the time to find them from many different people, 3) the cost to have those parts restored, and 4) finding a pair of RHD T34 headlight glass lenses is near impossible! I bought new Euro-style headlights for my 1962 that allow me to use 6V Halogen (2X brighter than stock), have fluted concave glass (built into the reflector), and they were reasonable ($100/pair). The chrome inner sealed-beam ring was used and the chrome outer ring fit perfectly. It looks stock, is safer for 6V cars, and are new parts.

I was discussing this with Mark Poulton last week. He tells me that BMW 2002 headlight glass fits and is still available in RHD style. If you can find all the other parts from Europe then it's an option.

Please is there any chance of some photos of correct headlamp assemblies & rings? Going through the collection at the mo,& keep finding assorted chrome rings with SB numbers on them Are the bucket assemblies themselves either handed or country specific?

I realise that I'm late for the party, but the SB 12 outer and inner parts are for a regular type 3. SB 13, inner and outer is for the T-34. Most of these are for sealed beam headlights. You're also looking for a 3 armed black bucket, as that was used on t-34s with sealed beams. I hope this helps.

Thats handy Bob, sadly Euro parts are just too expensive for me, so switching to the sealed beam unit sems a viable way forward. in my collected parts i have one SB12 and one SB 13 unit; i had wondered if this meant left and right, but now i have learnt otherwise. Search begins for an SB13 bucket!

Search begins for an SB13 bucket! You can use the SB 12 inner ring on a t-34, as that's what I'm going to do on 1 side. I've already checked the fit, and it's good to go. The real difference that I can see, is that the SB 13 has 3 indents on it's inner ring, while the SB 12 has cut outs in those same spots. The 3 legged bucket might be the hard part to find though. I'll look and see if I have a pic around here IF nobody else posts 1 up. If I don't, I could take a snap shot and post it up.

I'm going to try and post a pic of the back of it (the SB 13) here, along side a SB 12, so you can see the differences. This might also help the parts list guy know IF he has any in his collection. Sweet, it worked.

Except you really want the SB 13, not the SB 12. Like I said before, the SB 12 can donate some of it's parts, but you can't swap in the entire assembly. I'm using a SB 12 bucket (that holds the bulb), and 1 SB 12 ring on mine, the other side is all SB 13 parts. The outer ring might be difficult to source, as it's a T-34 only part.
