Hello! I've black unnamed stuff (roof tar or similar) all over dash (several millimeters thick) and it seems to me that no-one else has that, so it's wrong. Or just missing after restoration? Unless there is something similar between the wood-looking vinyl and dash steel? Looks like some sound insulation or similar but it sure isn't pretty (nor the radio!). I hope there's nice blue paint beneath it as (currently) I'm going to remove it, but meanwhile comments are welcome: What is it and has anyone seen that kind of stuff before? Nice round holes around instruments and speaker tells me that it's professional job, whoever installed it. Also style is very similar as in Beetle's central tunnel with sound absorbent (tar). These are the details that bothers me: This very much looks like factory installed. But for what and is just the vinyl fake wood missing? In a -65 there shouldn't be that, as far as I know. Nope, the 1965 dash would NOT have that tar material, just the beautiful Sea Blue paint.

you see some dashes with black vinyl or leather which of course never has been factory installed ... the 65 and early t 34 s all had painted dash ... only the 67 -69 type 34 s have had that wooden vinyl dash covers

A stock '65 wouldn't have that emergency flasher either.

I thought that it might be newer dash (or whole chassis) but the recession for the radio is different too in newer models, as far as I know. I'll check the wiring of the emergency flash later, it's probably a self-made addition, not factory installed. Anyway: Off it goes and that was the major question. Thanks for your help.
