Well as some might have noticed I'm a new Finland rep and have been for a few months. But I never really have had a time to really introduce me or my car.
So heres something I'm an IT-Engineer and I work for a international company which is building a power plant to Finland.
I found my ghia trough a wanted ad from Finnish VW association.
The car is -65 lhd whit no sunroof.
I has been out of road single 1979 and enjoyed a project car status from -82 onvards until I bought it summer 2009. At the time car was a rolling primered shell whit most of the welding done.

So I finished the welding and started prepping the car for the cherry red paint. The paint is same as originally but the roof was not painted black from the factory. All the painting was done in my own small garage by myself (self learned painter).

After Paint I started cleaning polishing and refurbishing parts

after

The engine of this car had been rebuild in the eighties by the old owner and as all seemed to be fine I decided not to split the engine and run it as it is and that has been a good call as it has proven to be strong and reliable engine. Only thing that I needed to do was rebuilding of the carbs and replace all the fuel lines and fuel pump. And ofcource point plugs wires oil etc and I also replaced tha whole distributor as I tought that there was some issues whit that.

And as I had a hard time finding good heat exchangers I welded up the old ones and and even dough the look like shit those are solid and not leaking.
www.fvwa.sitefactory.fi/data/8403.jpg
I also did the headliner myself well the stitching was done by my mother but all the other stuff was done by my self.

These pictures are taken before steaming so some creases are still there.
Door panels were looking a bit sad before cleaning

but they cleaned up well

I also had to replace the needle out of the speedo as it was broken

www.fvwa.sitefactory.fi/data/8388.jpg
(I redid the speedo yesteday because the km meter was not working broken gear I also polished the face of the meter)
I wanted the car stay as a six volt so I bought a red top optima for it and I also rewired the car totally using wires sold by a meter (I was had finding all the colors needed).

I also modified an old vdo tacho to fit to the ghia whit out looking out of place. I used the speaker grille centre section as my speaker grill had been hacked by the previous owner of the car.

Un fortuanetly this meter was mentioned for a smaller opening on the dash so friend of mine made me an adaptor ring in a latch out of aluminum which I polished.
Brakes were also totally rebuild and all parts firstly sinc coated and then painted. And then using nos seals all the front cylinders were rebuild.

At this point the car was starting to look like a car.
www.fvwa.sitefactory.fi/data/8557.jpg
In the part pile that I received whit the car was a 6volt washer motor so I had to use that one whit the car and I think that thats also a neat perioid assecory.
www.fvwa.sitefactory.fi/data/8567.jpg
As well as the blaupunkt frankfurt that I bought for a 30€ from the local scarp yard.
www.fvwa.sitefactory.fi/data/8569.jpg
The interior of this car has been retrimmed professionally somewhere in the seventies and as all the interior is calen and not broken I decited to keep it as it is.
At this point I got the car registred and mot:d and few days later I took a car to trip to sweden where my avatar image was taken. This 800km journey was done whit only ~50km testdrive sicle early eighties. And I had not driven the car on a highway before this trip.
But the whole trip was a success whitout any major broblems.
And after this I enjoyed the car for the rest of the summer and in the winter I took the engine out and resealed the gearbox and dropped the rear for one outer spline.

ANd this summer I have just done some minor stuff like temporary mats for the trunk and hood departments. Until I hve the money and time to do all whit german squareweave.

www.fvwa.sitefactory.fi/data/8715.jpg
I also repainted the gearknob of this car to the theme of the car
