Hi all,
The lock on my vent window isn't closing properly, resulting in quite an anoying sound when driving. I already have a replacement waiting to be installed, but how do I go about this? Does the entire interior of the door need to be disassembled or is it possible to lift the window out when the hinge is taken off?
Regards,
Remco

It's rarely the vent window glass/handle that create the loud wind whistling noises while driving. It's typically the seal and the adjustment of the vent frame against the seal. As for replacing the vent window glass (with chrome bottom edge attached), it's clamped on the metal rod by a sandwich-style clamp on the chrome vent frame. Access to loosen this clamp can only be done with the door panel off. I know this process is a long & painful one, but it's the only way. Here's the Step-By-Step PDF document that covers this area: www.leehedges.com/t34/puret34/stepbystep/doorwindowassembly.pdf

Well, as you say, the seal is bad too, but the clamp doesn't close properly. My guess is it broke sometime in the distant past and it was mended using a rusty nail or something. There is too much space and the rusty nail hasn't been too kind on the chrome as well.

Ah ... it's the locking arm pin that you're talking about? Best option is to replace the entire window with the locking lever arm already attached. You'll need to remove the interior door panel to gain access to the clamp holding down the windows rod first. Then replace the window, then tighten the clamp down enough so the window stays open at speed when opened all the way. Then reassemble the door panel.

Yes, that's it. As soon as the weather starts clearing up (somehwere in the next 6 months or so...) I will start taking some pictures of all these areas I have questions about! Regards, Remco
