Does anyone have any documents that show what colors where options for the roof on late (67 through 69) type 34s?
Also, if you have a late T34 with a two tone, was it that way originally?
Thanks, Tom

One of the special T34 documents I was able to acquire is the T34 Color Combinations book as a special gift from Jim Patterson, of House of Ghia. Jim passed away in late-2008. Jim was, like me, obsessively dedicated to Karmann Ghia's and his House of Ghia was at one time the #1 supplier of repro KG parts in the world. The T34 Color Combinations book (published by Volkswagen) is divided into annual color options & specifications for the colored parts. However, the late-model years stop at 1967. There is no information specific to 1968-69 T34s, so I have no documentation about roof color options for each body color for these model years. Most of the T34 colors are close to or the same as the T14 colors. The 1968 brochure shows these two-tone choices: Cherry Red & Albatross White, Pine Green & Albatross White, Gobi Beige & Black, Black & Albatross White, Velour Red & Albatross White, Regatta Blue & Black, & Lotus White & Black. So the only two roof color options were Black & Albatross White. Undoubtedly there are other options, but these are just what's on the 1968 T14 brochure. Chinchilla is a light-gray color, so if I were to guess what color roof would be chosen it would likely be Black. I've never seen a Chinchilla T34 much less a two-toned one. The good news (for Tom) is that he can make just about any choice for the roof color for his 1968 without fear that someone will claim "that color was never an option for 1968 T34s". Sorry, Tom! Wish I could offer more help.

Thanks Lee - That does help, I can't imagine Karmann adding more colors, so you are right, Black and albatross white were probably the options. I like your theory on the two tones as well

I've been doing this T34-thing for so many years, Tom. I can't recall when I found that image. It was likely a 1968 T34 or KG brochure back-page that had the color swatches. What other VWs used Chinchilla?

Johannes told me that he had a chinchilla bug at one point. I think it was only a 68-69 colour.

A quick check on theSamba color options shows Chinchilla was used on 1968 T14 Coupes & Cabriolets, 1968-69-70 Beetles, and 1969-70 T3 models, in addition to the 1968 T34s.
