Could anyone tell me the difference between the type 14 & 34 door check straps? A year ago I ordered the door check strap kits from Rudiger-- these kits were to include straps, pins, rollers and clips. What I recieved was everything but the straps, although I paid for the complete kit. What I've done is used the type 14 parts(straps), as I needed to have something to hold the door open rather than using my cane to do the job. I noticed that the type 14 straps were narrower than the remnants that were on my car, but I have no idea as to the proper length of the strap. My doors don't seem to open as far as others I've seen in pictures. I find it very difficult to get into or out of the car due to my physical handicap, and was wondering if type 3 ones will work instead. Cheers... Wally.

The type 14 check straps work just fine. I have been getting them from Karmann Ghia Parts and Restoration. The rubber part is $13 each.

Thanks Tom, they do indeed work, I was just curious as to whether there was a difference in length. I'm sure ingress and egress is always going to be an issue for me. Maybe suicide doors is an option.... ha,ha.. just kidding. Cheers... Wally. p.s. I got mine from the VW dealership, where I worked prior to my accident and still get staff pricing.... every little bit helps.

The repro KG door check straps are indeed only for the T14s. These are shorter in length than the original T34 ones, so they limit the door opening, unfortunately. The metal T3 door check straps will not fit the T34 doors, as they're a completely different design. Sorry, Wally, but you'll need to get used to getting into/out of the doors as-is.

Thanks Lee, I did some research earlier today and found that the type 3 ones are similar to the beetle style. It's been a long time since I even looked at type 3 doors. It makes you wonder why Rudiger offered the kits in the first place... hmmm. I paid him 30 euros for the kits and still had to buy 2 type 14 straps for 11 dollars each!!!
