Obviously '65 was a a good year for VW. Most of the Beetles still left around here (=Finland) are 65-66 or 72-73 and I believe it reflects the amounts sold. Beetle was the most common car model here in '66 and again in '73.  Not just sold, that's a one year trick, but in traffic/registered and that's not so easy to achieve. |
