I was able to make the trek to Philly (actually just inside NJ) today and get the engine and trans. It was nice to meet Ken after having a few emails bounce back and forth in the last year or so about local shows and issues with his Ghia. Super nice guy!
The engine is seized and is missing the carbs/intakes/air cleaner. The number on it is J0009439. I looked on TheSamba and couldn't find any VW engines starting with a "J" so I'm not sure what I'm looking at. Also, the number wasn't in the exact same place as it is on my engine. Ken said it came out of a car with a small speedo and it has a throttle lever on it for dual carbs so I was figuring it was a '64 but the "J" doesn't make sense for an original.
Any ideas?
The transaxle is drum to drum. I didn't figure out yet where the number is on it to check that either.

Forgot to mention that Ken threw in a pile of T34 window trim. I haven't checked it out yet to see exactly what pieces are there. Some of it is a bit rough. Inside the back of my Eurovan. Here's a shot of the engine number. It's between the oil breather and the fuel pump instead of back a section where it is on my Ghia engine.

It looks like it has a later style oil cooler, and an 009 distributor. Could that "J" be a miss stamped "U"? That would be a correct sufix letter for a t-3 engine. When you get a chance, see if it's a dual relief case.

Thanks for the tips Bob. I'll take a closer look at the "J" and the case.
The trim is 6 sections...2 long and 4 short. So I think it's a set front and rear minus the connector pieces.

Jürgen, it matches my '64 window trim which has one extra long piece along the bottom of each front and rear windshields. Is there a difference early to late or something?

Bob, there is not a complete "U" in the number but it definitely could be poorly stamped. It is not dual relief either. I think going by "U" it could be a '68 1600cc FI case? So someone would have put single port carb heads on it. Looks like a later case though.

Hi Brad , all my trim parts shown in the pics above are from 65(2x) and later T34 . In my spare part list there are no "one-piece" - bottom parts . I think we have to see pictures from older cars . Maybe they only sold the "?" later style"?" trim parts for all T34 from a special date on as spare parts !? Greetings Jürgen
