As far as I'm aware there is no source for the gray trunk liner material as found in our T34's Has anyone looked into having this made? and would there be enough intrest to warrant going through this exersise?

There is no source for the T3 compartment material that I'm aware of. Judging by the lack of response on the other reproduction parts we've heavily invested in ... I'd say that reproducing it would not be a good idea unless you can make 5-10 sets. But I'm sure there's at least 5-10 owners that would buy the material in bulk to make their restorations more authentic with new material.

Yes that was what I was thinking, just seeing if its worth getting the material made so that owners could just buy off a roll. Will look in to it a bit more, if you have any information about this material which is handy to know please share.

You might want to ask this on the type 3 forum of the Samba, as some t-3 owners might be interested as well. There are a lot of "purists" (1500 club members and others) over there that might be interested in what you find. I only mention this, as there seems to be more resto's going on everyday. Just something to think about.

Hi John , I `ve made the missing parts in my car out of the trunk material from other Type 3`s like the rear trunk from the Fastback ... You only need a model so you can draw the lines , cut them out and sewing the edges . So you have original material ..... Jürgen

Yes that was my other thought however even regular T3 liners are very difficult to get over here let alone some that are still in good condition. If I can find some good used ones overseas then thats an option however new would be even better, I was thinking of sensing some samples to textile manufacturers and pricing it up.

I wonder if the place that makes the seat insert cloth would be interested in making this stuff.

For a long time I've wanted to offer T34 tool rolls made from the rear compartment material, made from used T3 pieces that are inexpensive. $30-50 for a Notchback rear mat liner which could easily make 9 tool rolls.
