I discovered this nasty little abomination today. I have no idea what they were doing, but they didn't seal it up when they were done. There's a big square flap that was opened up and then flattened back down.

I think the tank that came with the '63 was NOS; it didn't have a scratch on it, no rust at all, and it had this sticker on it. Unfortunately it's the wrong tank - it has a "hump" on one side, I assume for expansion, and the overflow tube is a lot larger. I'll run it for now until I can restore another tank. In my tank investigating today, I discovered that the tank in the '62 has no overflow tube.

I think the hump for a future filler cap on the fender (my theory anyway) definitely a late tank. If you want to get rid of that piece of junk ;-)
Also, could that big square flap be where a antenna went?

Blasted the original heater boxes today. At the rate I'm going, the new engine will be ready before I get the rest of the car assembled. I hope I can save these!

I started a thread on TheSamba regarding my windshield install; I kept having a problem with the rubber falling out of the trim. I came up with the idea of putting this stiff foam under the rubber, which kept the rubber compressed against the bottom of the trim. It was then just a simple matter of sliding the foam out once the windshield was in. Now if I could just find a source for these little corner clips...

How tough would it be to make some?.... Aren't they just bit of stainless shim, trim on bent to shape?
