Hi all,
For the summer, my girfriend and I plan to go camping in France, obviously taking the Ghia. I have this roofrack (Pedro, see avatar), which supposedly can take the weight of a man standing on it, but how much weight will the rain gutters actually take before bending (Can they even bend)? Although we are quite light campers, tents and stuff can weigh 50kg easily.
Any more people planning on taking their Ghias on holiday trips?
Greets, Remco

The roof rack is capable of carrying a good load but I would advise loading the area behind the rear seat first, then the front compartment, and then the rear compartment with the heaviest camping gear to keep the car balanced. I've camped with three kids in my T34 using pop-up tents (not the huge aluminum-pole house versions) and there was plenty of room inside the T34. We used the roof rack for the clothes bags then covered them with a tarp (to protect from rain) and secured the gear with a "spider web netting".
Good luck & take pics!

Yeah, that's what I was thinking of. Before this, I had a Superbeetle and I always put the heavier stuff in the front, also for a bit smoother ride.
I had in mind to use the rear trunk for the tent etc as well, since it won't take any items too bulky.

Hi @all, 5,5 years ago my wife and I we took our T34 for our honeymoon. Two weeks in Konstanz / Bodensee / Germany with many short trips to Switzerland / the alpes. Staying in a great private penthouse flat we had a wonderfull time and much fun with our T34. Many people asked for the Ghia and were amazed that a young couple made their honeymoon with an old car... ;D A T34 is a very good car for a holiday trip. Have fun and enjoy the trip with your Ghia! Best regards,
Tobias
